My Codling Family...
Background...
My paternal grandmother was Violet BULMAN, daughter of Robert BULMAN, and Margaret CODLING..
Derivation of the name Codling...
It is suggested that the name Codling derives thus:
We are descended from 2 French
brothers who murdered one of the local dignitaries and escaped on a rowing
boat, landing some where near Hartlepool around 1625. Their name was Couer de lion, but the English could not grasp the French tones and the name
was corrupted down to Codling.
Whether this is the true derivation, or an apocryphal tale, perhaps we will never know... but such is the delights of genealogy.
